GO!
Yesterday you learned to use your internal STOP sign to eliminate negative thoughts and expressions in order to grow our age esteem.
Let’s take it a step further. It isn’t enough to simply stop our negative thoughts. We need to also replace them with something positive. A positive thought or expression is uplifting and moves us forward. Negatives are like weights that hold us down.
Now that you have used your STOP sign to eliminate negatives that creep into your language, it is time to replace those negative words and expressions with positive thoughts and words. Just as the streetlights turn from stop to go, so will your thoughts.
- Each time you catch yourself using a negative expression such as “I can’t”, STOP!
- Now GO! Transform your words to make them positive. “I could never learn to use these new fangled phones” becomes “I will learn to use my new phone’s multiple possibilities”.
- GO! with your new positive vocabulary until it becomes second nature.
You will soon find that you have a whole new attitude that enhances your age esteem and your life will become happier.

STOP!
How many times do you stop automatically when you see a stop sign? You don’t even think about it. Your reaction is automatic. You stop!
Wouldn’t it be great if we had little stop signs that would flash in other aspects of our life? I’m thinking of a stop sign flashing when negative thoughts come to mind such as “I am too old for that; I am not good enough; I am too skinny or fat”.
And what about those moments of procrastination when we put something off until later or talk ourselves out of purchasing something we can afford and that would make our lives easier or more pleasurable simply ‘because’.
Let’s add lack of self-confidence while we are at it.
All of these are the antipathy of age esteem. You can learn to erase these negatives from your life and to grow your age esteem.
- Picture a STOP sign. Use the one pictured above as an example.
- Every time you catch yourself saying something negative either out loud or in your mind, picture the STOP sign.
- Stop that thought!
It is as easy as that.

L I V E !
Remember to LIVE your age.
It is not enough to be alive. We need to live! We need to celebrate life, to show an attitude towards aging that is positive. An attitude that says, “Wow! Now we are able to come into our true being. We are able to understand who we are, building on the past in order to contribute more fully to the future.
I believe an important part of our mandate is to become examples of positive aging by genuinely loving who we are today – and tomorrow, and the next days. The Baby Boomers are the generation which has set the trends as they have aged together. It is now time to set the trend for us, the seniors +.
What an awe-inspiring opportunity we have! Let’s show our age-esteem. We are the role models.

Bonnie spoke at the United Nations Pre-Retirement Seminar on Embracing Retirement With Age Esteem on April 16th.
- As a retiree today you represent a new breed of retiree, very different from your predecessor.
- How you feel about yourself at the age you are today, every day, will influence how well you age and how well you live.
- Age Esteem is the decisive factor.

Emmanuelle Riva, 86

This year Emmanuelle Riva received the César of best actress at age 86 proving that there is no limit of age when it comes to shining through your talents. She starred in the French film Amour written and directed by Michael Haneke. Amour was also awarded an Oscar as the best foreign language film.
Bravo Emmanuelle Riva for shining with age-esteem on the big screen as a model for each of us!

Rain, Rain Please Stay!
Rain, Rain don’t go away,
Stay and sprinkle on our day!
It is NOT always funny
To have it HOT and sunny.
So, even though our shoes get damp,
And our hair “shades” like a lamp’s,
We can sparkle in a shower,
Moisturized like some rare flower!
Rain, Rain, please rain awhile,
It will moisten up my smile,
Glisten all my radiant beams
And lubricate my Age Esteem!

Train Your Brain
Train your brain to make the most
Of Life, and even try to boast
About the talents you have shown –
The ones unique to you alone.
Train your brain and Lo and Behold
You’ll never think you’re growing old.
Think Young, and very soon you’ll seem
To exemplify Age Esteem!

Time Goes By
Time goes by with timeless speed,
Helping to fulfill each need.
Gratefully we try to be
Kind and true, in harmony
With our gifts and specialness
Holding on to youthfulness!
Fill your time with vim-like steam
Bubbling out with Age Esteem

Using Age Esteem
Florida is the sunshine state,
Even when it rains!
We should shine and be as great,
Even with our pains.
Cheerfulness is so contagious,
Even through our woes.
Why not sometimes be outrageous
Then ALL trouble goes!
Clouds don’t always hide the sun,
It’s there and can be seen.
Your brighter days have just begun
While using Age Esteem.

Dental Health
Your dental health is important at every age. It influences how you feel physically. It also affects your confidence and age esteem. You like to feel healthy and to smile without reserve.
Avoid brushing teeth less than a half hour after drinking orange juice or other acid drinks. This makes the enamel less fragile.
As a toothbrush is not always available after eating, sugarless chewing gum is a good way to clean teeth temporarily. Today chewing gums have whitening ingredients as well which can embellish your big happy smile.
