Mushrooms For Healthy Aging

Mushrooms For Healthy Aging

Mushrooms have been known to prolong longevity in many cultures. However, not all mushrooms are edible. Some are poisonous, so be very sure when picking them during a forest walk.  However, there are many that are very nutritious.

Mushrooms are loaded with antioxidants, which control the free radicals in the body that promote aging. They contain vitamin B which makes red blood cells, lower cholesterol, and some mushrooms are believed to aid the immune system.

Add to this the exercise and fresh air that you enjoy while hunting the mushrooms and you have another reason to believe that mushrooms are a boost to your health as you age.

Age Esteem Fashion

If fashion

Is your passion

And staying smart

Becomes an art,

Then show that style

With a Big smile

And skirt your troubles from your heart.

Don your oldest and best garments

(Beaming at their vintage seams),

Dressing up by adding “charments”

And looking young with AgeEsteem.

A Time To Say, “I’m Sorry”

A Time To Say, “I’m Sorry”

There are occasions in all stages of life when it is best to simply say, “I’m sorry”, and move on.  This is very different from the approach of the person who is always apologizing, even when she is not responsible for what happened.  Those people wear us down with their apologies that become meaningless.

For others it is almost impossible to squeak out the words.  They are not able or willing to express that they are perhaps at least partially responsible for a situation.  How many broken relationships would still be whole if only the friends or partners had been able to express those words, “I’m sorry”?  How many estranged family members would be speaking to each other if they were able to voice those words?

And how often do we have unhappy thoughts and feel badly knowing that things might be different had we owned up to our own role in breaking a relationship because we couldn’t say, “I’m sorry.  Forgive me.”?

Knowing when to say, “I’m sorry” is important to AgeEsteemers in all stages of life.

  • Saying “I’m sorry” allows you to move on to other things.  You are not preoccupied with an unhappy incident that you caused that keeps you from fully living your life today.
  • You open the door to deeper discussion.
  • It is a key to healing a relationship.
  • Your healthy relationships will lead to greater contact with other generations.
  • By saying “I’m sorry” when it is meaningful, you set an example for others.

Let your age esteem shine as an example to others. When it is meaningful, say “I’m sorry. Please forgive me.”

Tips To Avoid Intestinal Gas

Tips To Avoid Intestinal Gas

In certain instances gas is produced during the digestive process. This can lead to bloating and flatulence.

Some foods that aid in intestinal gas accumulation are rice, wheat, oat and corn cereals, raw vegetables, fruit, cabbage, dried beans, onions, and white bread to list a few.

Here are six good habits to adopt for healthy aging in order to prevent or aid this problem:
1.    Eat several small meals with less fat and smaller portions, and chew food well.
2.    Avoid carbonated drinks.
3.    Walk for 15 minutes after having eaten a meal.
4.    Drink herbal teas.
5.    Avoid stress, which is a key to bloating. The digestive system is connected to the nervous system and thus affects how food is processed in the body.

Since we often find ourselves eating alone as we get older, let me also add an Age Esteem tip. Take time to enjoy your meal. Even if you are eating alone, sit down to eat at a table you have set with attention. Use your good china and a colorful napkin. And why not add a candle or flowers? After all, you are worth the extra effort. – And it will ease your digestion.

Garlic For Healthy Aging

Garlic

Garlic For Healthy Aging

Garlic, often called a miracle food, is not always to everyone's liking. –  But it is very healthy for you as you age.

Garlic reduces the development of tumors, reduces breast cancer side effects, surpasses penicillin in the combat against 8 types of bacteria and protects people who have had a heart attack from having a second one.  Furthermore, garlic contains over 200 vitamins and minerals such as calcium, potassium, iron and zinc.

Unbelievably, it seems to work wonders on every human medical condition such as reducing cholesterol, appeasing teeth and ear aches, and curing flu and its symptoms.

An Age Esteem tip to take away the strong taste and smell of the garlic: Just take out the green bulb in the middle of each clove.

Add garlic to your meat roasts, vegetable platters and soups. Food will taste delicious when prepared with garlic! – And it will help you age healthfully.

Happy Birthday!

Birthday

Happy Birthday!

A special Poem for Cousins
And SHE who’s my dear friend:
She keeps my mind a-buzzin
As through our lives we wend.
Hers is a BIG, BIG Birthday,
So Big I’m all agog!:
Speechless, verseless, quite “bouche-bée”
No words, nor time for blogs.
Corny though it might be,
Her real Kernel of truth:
Since she was a baby
She’s found eternal youth!

Do You Hate To Fly?

Flying

Do You Hate To Fly?

Do You Hate To Fly?

If you find you have to fly

Try to think about the sky

Look, its almost always Blue

Clear and Bright – that could be You!

Young or old, each “flight” is new

If clouds be gray, what to do?

Just take the journey anyway –

Be happy for another day.

Alexandra Taylor, our Age Esteem Poet, spends several winter months in the land of her childhood roots, Palm Beach, Florida. Fortunately she is en route back home to Geneva, Switzerland. – Thus the topic of the poem.

We look forward to a new flow of verse to keep our rhythmic age esteem alive with rhyme and smiles.

Age Esteem Telesummit

If you have not yet signed up for the Age Esteem Telesummit, do it now!

The following feedback offers you a taste of why you will want to sign up and receive the recordings of the talks you missed – all are free during a limited time.

"Just a quick note to tell you I think your telesummit,  with the most amazing speakers, is fantastic!  I know there are 2 more days, but it has been extremely enlightening and the quality of the information and delivery so far is fabulous.

I especially resonated with Tina Lifford's concept of "Inner Fitness" and the importance of cultivating skills of resilience and optimism. Her message and examples were terrific.  As I rushed home from exercise class to hear her, I realized I do not spend anywhere near the time on inner fitness as I do on physical fitness.

Dr. Jen Palmer answered so many questions I have had (what supplements do we really need and why), and having her be specific with dosage and brands both during her presentation and then on your website was so appreciated.  The idea that "Being Sedentary is equivalent to Smoking" (not sure I quoted correctly) in relation to oxygen getting to the brain and body was a real eye opener.  She has such a lovely delivery – it was like you were sitting in her office and she was talking just to you.

And how I adored today hearing the "Professional Age-Esteem Bonnie Fatio".  The first item on my list you asked us to make "What do I love about being 67 (my age)" is that now that I am retired, I have the time to call in to a conference which is uplifting, motivating, thought provoking, stimulating and hopefully so good that I truly incorporate the new information in my daily life.  I always take away so many ideas from your presentations ("Spam your negative thoughts", give a specific name to your fears, YOU are in the Driver's Seat of your life).

Thank you Bonnie Fatio for all you do to energize everyone with whom you come in contact.  I know you worked hours to create this telesummit.  What a gift to listeners and readers (I copied some of the free material and will send to friends).

Looking forward to the next 2 speakers!" – Diana Johnson, Arizona, USA
